Bar Boca’s is a hip hangout perfect for lunch, drinks and dinner with friends. At Bar Boca’s sharing is caring. The innovative menu is always changing but the concept stays the same: delicious platters and small bites to split with good company.
I’ll be honest, I’ve been here more times than I can count and I’ve tried practically every item on the dinner menu. It’s not Michelin star cuisine, but it’s definite comfort food. The service is always friendly and speedy and the food is consistent. That’s why it’s my go-to spot when visitors are in town.
Typically my friends and I will order one platter and a few bites to split. Here are a few of my favorite bites: Ceviche with mango chutney and Thai mayo, the mini lasagna with zucchini, eggplant and blue cheese, the bruschetta with tomato jam, Burrata and basil, the bitterballen and of course the triple threat: three types of fries with three different dipping sauces – a true crowd pleaser.
In addition to the bites they are known for their impressive sharing platters. They come in three sizes, small medium and large. You can choose a meat, fish, cheese, veggie or sweet platter or opt for the Boca’s combo instead. I’m slightly embarrassed to say I’ve tried every platter but the Sweet one, my favorite being the Veggie.
At lunch time they don’t offer platters and bites but instead small finger sandwiches. If you’ve ever been to Spain you’ll definitely sense the 100 Montaditos vibe right away. You can choose between white or brown bread and 3-4 should be enough per person.
If you want to stop in for dinner be sure to call ahead and make a reservation. They’re always busy! Otherwise swing by for brunch, lunch or an afterwork borrel (that’s Dutch for afterwork drinks and snacks) with friends and share some delicious and affordable bites.
Bar Boca’s has three locations, two in Amsterdam and one in Rotterdam. I’ve only visited their cozy spot in de Pijp but since I recently moved to Jordaan, I’m looking forward to checking out their other original location on Westerstraat.
