Fratellini is a little taste of Italy in Amsterdam. This has become my go-to post-climb stop. Fratellini Amsterdam is conveniently located on Haarlemmerstraat. Pretty much on my way home from any and everywhere. And on Sunday afternoons post-climb, I’m a hungry girl. Fratellini always hits the spot.
Fratellini serves fresh toasted Italian-style crispy focaccia sandwiches with your choice of fillings – both Italian and creative. For example, the new Cuban special.
The menu is lengthy, but I keep going for the same option – the Altra Caprese. It’s a delicious and crispy focaccia loaded with a generous helping of mozzarella, ricotta, pesto, grilled tomatoes and oregano. They toast the sandwich in the oven to get it extra crispy and wrap it up in a bag to go. I like to enjoy mine outside on the Brouwersgracht, watching the boats pass by.
Last time I visited with my partner, and he opted for the Prosciutto Cotto. Equally tasty, but nothing beats the oozing mozzarella on the Altra Caprese. Browsing the menu, I’m ready to try the Prosciutto Crudo next. Basically the Altra Caprese, plus prosciutto. Yes please!
If you’re on the Haarlemmerstraat, certainly stop by Fratellini Amsterdam for a quick lunch on the go. Close your eyes, and you’ll be transported to Italy – or a little Italian deli in Rhode Island. The taste of a warm summer beach day at home.
Fratellini is proud to support family businesses, traditional production methods and as much as possible, the slow food movement. All good things!
They also offer boxes and catering options for parties and events. And they have a pretty tasty looking lasagne in the case I’ve been eyeing. In the store you’ll also find a little Italian specialty food shop. While the prices are high, they have a fun selection of ceramics, jams, oils, breads and other goods. If you’re in a pinch, seems like the perfect stop to pick up an Italian gift.
A focaccia sandwich at Fratellini costs €10-12. Compared with similar lunch to-go options on Haarlemmerstraat or in the Jordaan, it’s a fair price.
