Inn Bufalito boasts a menu based on, you guessed it, buffalo! They make use of all parts of the water buffalo. Buffalo milk, buffalo cheese, and buffalo meat. They carry their theme into the dining room with playful buffalo silhouettes showcased in the modern decor.
Not a buffalo fan? Don’t worry. There are plenty of other dishes that will delight your taste buds as well.
At Inn Bufalito the chefs believe that the region they live in offers all the flavors they need to make an exquisite and inventive menu. I have to say, I must agree. All of the dishes at Inn Bufalito are creative renditions of Campania classics. In addition to the buffalo, the menu features local produce, herbs, wine and beer from the Campania region of Italy.
From the moment we arrived at the door, the staff was friendly and welcoming. We did not have reservations so we had to wait about half an hour for a table. The meal we were about to enjoy was well worth the wait. Once we were seated at our table, our waiter was beaming with light and full of knowledge. He confidently recommended his favorite dishes and answered our questions with ease.
To start we split the mixed antipasto platter with buffalo mozzarella. The mozzarella was delicate, light, and flavorful. It paired well with the rosemary focaccia and the cured buffalo meats and vegetables from the platter. The sautéed pumpkin was unexpected and delightful. The sweetness paired well against the bitterness of the broccoli rabe. I’m not a big cured meat fan but the one in the back of the picture had less fat and a briny flavor I enjoyed.
For our meal, we decided to split three items so that we could all taste a bit of everything. A classic salad (we actually ended up ordering a second… too much gelato had us begging for greens), fusilli pasta with buffalo sausage, roasted red peppers and green beans, and the buffalo stew.
The buffalo stew was fork-tender and surprisingly light for a red meat. The carrots and the potatoes were stewed with the buffalo meat in a sweet tomato sauce. The potatoes and carrots were cooked perfectly and added a necessary richness to the dish. The stew was dressed in a light olive oil and sprinkled with dried oregano right before serving to wake up all the flavors.
The fusilli pasta reminded me of a pasta dish my mom would whip up on a night where she was cleaning out the fridge. The roasted red peppers, green beans, and buffalo sausage worked nicely with the fun shaped pasta. Once again somehow that large plate of food was light! There was no heavy cream or cheese. Just a light sauce and a balsamic glaze to dress the plate.
Too bad we were all too full for dessert. That ricotta cake was really looking at me. Next time I am in Sorrento I will make sure I save room for dessert.
Inn Bufalito serves their campania taverna flavors for lunch from 12 pm – 3:30 pm and for dinner from 6 pm to 11:30 pm daily. During the winter, they are closed on Tuesdays. Lucky you, they also accept reservations on their website!
