Krabi Night Market

If you’re in Krabi over the weekend, visit the Krabi Night Market. In Thai, that’s Thanon Khon Dern. The market is situated behind the Vogue Department Store. They hold it every Friday, Saturday and Sunday evening from 18:00 – 21:30.

If you see rows and rows of highlighter yellow tents, you’ve found it!

Krabi is not the most well-known area for Thai food. Krabi is better known for German-owned Italian restaurants and American-style eateries. The one exception is the Krabi Night Market.

My coworker and I stopped by on our way back from the Tiger Cave Temple. We were so happy with both the atmosphere and all the sweet and savory dishes we tried.

What to eat at the Krabi Night Market

From the moment we stepped inside the yellow tents, I had a smile on my face. There were over 70 food stalls. Finally, I was going to enjoy a real Pad Thai. The food was very affordable. We sampled our way through the market trying all sorts of colorful dishes.

Here are some of my favorites. Sweet Thai coconut crepes, Pad Thai wrapped in egg, Thai coconut pancakes with scallion, tapioca jelly and coconut dessert balls and Thai barbecue.

While we ate, we watched the children dance and sing songs on stage. I have no clue what they were going on about but it was certainly entertaining.

There are also some souvenir stalls and affordable clothing spots surrounding the main plaza. Every store seemed to sell the same stuff – shoes, jewelry, accessories, makeup and souvenirs. If that’s what you’re looking for, I recommend you do it here. The prices were much lower than those in Ao Nang.

How to get to the Krabi Night Market from Ao Nang

From the main street in Ao Nang, you should be able to flag down a songthaew (public bus) to take you to Krabi Town. The songthaew is the most inexpensive way to get to Krabi Town and will cost you about ฿60 each way.

There are no explicit bus stops so just be on the lookout. The songthaew drops you off in front of the Vogue Department Store and the Krabi Night Market is just behind it. You’ll see rows of yellow tents.

Alternatively, you can take a taxi or a tuk-tuk into Krabi Town. This will cost you ฿500 each way. On the way back to Ao Nang, the cost will be higher but is always negotiable.

Wait in front of the Vogue Department Store for a songthaew. To lower the price, tell the driver you will wait for others to arrive.

If you’d like more suggestions for Krabi, here are the top 8 things to do.
