Shopping on the Nine Streets, Amsterdam

Between the Singel Canal and the Prinsengracht Canal are nine tiny streets known in Amsterdam as De 9 Straatjes. In addition to great bars and cafes, shopping on the Nine Streets is outstanding. There is a great assortment of eclectic concept shops, designer boutiques, gift stores and art galleries worth checking out on an afternoon in the city.

Muze The Store

Muze The Store is perfect for a fashionista on a budget. Most of the items here are very reasonably priced and the owners go out of their way to bring you both big and lesser known local brands. Some of my favorites are Zoe Karssen, 24Colors and Ichi. If you like comfortable urban clothing with a bit of an edge, Muze is the place for you. They also have another shop called Noa Lifestyle on the edge of the nine streets. I find Noa to have more of the pricier items, but it is equally chic and charming.

Denham The Jean Maker

Denham is acclaimed jean maker, Jason Denham’s enterprise. All I can think of when I see the name of this shop is how incredibly suiting Jason’s last name is. The shop and gallery are devoted to all things denim. The cool contemporary look is easy to wear and suitable for nearly every occasion. This is one of those stores I walk into and want absolutely everything. In addition to denim, the Denham collection includes jackets, sweaters, accessories and even a coffee shop.

The Darling

The Darling is one of the best concept shops in Amsterdam. Besides shopping for great statement pieces, accessories, life style products and jewelry you can also relax upstairs in the living room. The space is designed so effortlessly it makes you feel immediately at home. They also sell a great and affordable line of their very own sweatshirts and loungewear. They recently opened a second location in De Hallen Passage and a webshop.

JOZ

Joz is one of the most beautifully designed spots in the nine streets. The narrow shop is stocked with beautifully curated books, lifestyle products, shoes, jewelry, accessories and clothing for women. I love browsing the books and home items in the shop. Everything here is very well-made and designed to be part of your wardrobe for some time. It’s my favorite spot for unique gifts.

Ace & Tate

Ace & Tate is my latest obsession. It’s basically Europe’s very own version of Warby Parker. It’s an Amsterdam-based specialty and affordable eyewear company that produces and sells prescription eyeglasses for €98 and sunglasses at a slightly higher price. Currently they have stores in the Netherlands, Germany and the UK. From the looks of their website and the store, their design is exactly like Warby Parker and I couldn’t be more in love.

We Are Labels

At We Are Labels their motto is “Only great minds can afford simple style”. Fittingly, the store is well-curated with a small selection of handpicked international and local brands that are hard to find anywhere else. Everything is generally priced between €40 and €80 making it a great place to shop on a budget. There are two locations in the nine streets and six different locations in Amsterdam all worth a visit.

Multiple Locations, Herengracht 356, 1016 CG

Sam Friday

Sam Friday is a fresh intimate apparel brand. They do everything from loungewear and boxers to underwear and bathing suits for both men and women. All their loungewear and undergarments are extremely soft and comfortable. There is an easy chart breaking down American, UK and European sizes making the store more customer friendly than any other lingerie shop I’ve been in in Amsterdam. I love the sweatshirts and tops with clever sayings like “Monday should be optional” or “Friyay”. The ladies working the store are very friendly and helpful when it comes to choosing lingerie and the organization in the shop makes it easy to find exactly what you are looking for. Overall, Sam Friday is sexy, cute and comfortable.
