Ogie’s Trailer Park is the hottest new bar and eatery in Providence. Ogie’s is the absolute perfect summer hangout and winter hideway. The owners of The Duck & Bunny on Wickenden Street, Jessica and Dan Becker, opened Ogie’s on the West side of Providence earlier this year. Ogie’s is an eclectic space where old school meets modern chic. The entryway is lined with decorative gold painted cinder blocks and opens to a 50’s style teal bar and retro bar stools to match. Overhead is where the modern chic comes into play: Spiky pendant lighting fixtures hang over the bar and the television plays everything from Disney movies to Planet Earth. There is a garage door that opens when the weather is appropriate and outback a rather unfitting Hawaiian Tiki bar that somehow makes sense.
The decor is unreal and the atmosphere is vibin’… but let’s get to the most important part: The food. Within the space, is a vinyl sided “mobile home” where diners can order their gourmet comfort food directly from the upbeat amiable staff. The mobile home is titled Granny Boo’s Kitchen after the owners’ cat. Ogie’s Trailer Park’s small menu is vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and meat lover friendly. It includes veggie burgers, vegan chili, tater tots, mac and cheese croquettes, grilled PB&J sandwiches, burgers, and their famous Rhody Fried Chicken Sandwich with a Dorito crumb crust. After placing your order, you receive a tourist license plate from one of the 50 states and wait for your state to be called over the loudspeaker, much like numbers at a deli. The menu is simple. This means the chefs go above and beyond to make the ordinary ingredients extraordinary on the plate. Everything from the bacon to the spicy siracha mayo is homemade with love.
I devoured the grilled PB&J sandwich with crunchy peanut butter, grape jelly. Of course, I added fluff for an ode to my childhood. I was happily surprised that the PB&J was served on wheat bread (I could pretend it was a little healthy). The hearty bread with the sweet jelly and fluff was to die for. I would eat this for any meal, including dessert. I also tried a few different varieties of tots. My favorite had to be the ranch. The crowd favorite is undoubtedly the truffle tots.
But how could I enjoy all this comforting gourmet goodness without an ice cold brew? You’re right, I couldn’t. The beer list is organized by states and includes craft and domestic beers from all over the country. Beer not your thing? The cocktail menu is creative and clever. They serve Hawaiian inspired drinks with mini umbrellas, best enjoyed outside by the fire pit. But for those cooler months, you can always opt for a traditional Moscow Mule served icy cold in a copper mug.
The eclectic space complements the food and drinks perfectly. The tacky palm tree, the multicolored Christmas lights, and the aluminum chairs around the fire pit add an undeniable playfulness to the space. Indoors, the American Gothic and Andy Warhol replicas add color and quirk to the bar area.
Stop by Ogie’s Trailer Park for a late night snack, quick lunch, or beers with friends. No matter what, Ogie’s Trailer Park should be on the top of your Providence list!
